You look at, touch, smell, listen to and you may even taste the object if it seems safe enough. You can envelop the object in a thin film of flame for a single imperceptible instant and read spectral patterns to detect more in depth info on the chemical composition of the object and other such fine details

Exert your Mind and spend a minute. Select a target Object within arm's reach. At the end of your investigation, roll Perception + Science at Difficulty 6.

  • Determine if this target is Alien in origin or whether it has any Alien energy or outside influences. You receive information about the type of energy, including the name of the relevant Source pool or equivalent.
  • You learn the object's intended function and how to use it for its intended purpose, though not necessarily the ability to do so.

Community Investigate Object Gifts

Find the right row in reality's database, and all of its knowledge can be yours.

Spend a minute. Select a target Object within arm's reach. You must use up rechargeable lithium battery in order to activate this Effect. At the end of your investigation, roll Intellect + Investigation at Difficulty 6.

You learn all the following information about your target:

  • Determine if this target is Alien in origin or whether it has any Alien energy or outside influences. You receive information about the type of energy, including the name of the relevant Source pool or equivalent.
  • You gather information about where the object was made and when.
  • You learn the object's intended function and how to use it for its intended purpose, though not necessarily the ability to do so.
The quality and specificity of information gained depends on your Outcome.

This Gift cannot have more than 3 Drawbacks, and its Gift Cost is capped at 1.

You cannot investigate the same target more than once per day.

  • You can target yourself if you qualify as a valid target by the other requirements.
  • Your target must be within line of sight, or within range of another sense if more fitting for the Gift's flavor.

Exert your Mind and spend 2 Actions. Select a target Object within arm's reach. You must make a Trauma roll when you use this Effect. Its Difficulty cannot be reduced by any means. If you fail or Botch, you receive one Mind Damage and a new Trauma. At the end of your investigation, roll Intellect + Culture at Difficulty 6.

You learn all the following information about your target:

  • You may learn how much sentimental value an object has and to whom.
  • You learn the object's intended function and how to use it for its intended purpose, though not necessarily the ability to do so.
The quality and specificity of information gained depends on your Outcome.

You cannot investigate the same target more than once per day.

  • You can target yourself if you qualify as a valid target by the other requirements.
  • Your target must be within line of sight, or within range of another sense if more fitting for the Gift's flavor.

David has walked through the Realms of Death many times, and spoken with many of the dead. Shades are starting to be drawn to him. Where another medium would be ignored by the dead, David’s rituals draw attention, even when they are done with such non-potent materials as commonplace Ouji boards. Unlike Blavatsky, whose earlier teachings inspire him, David does claim to speak with the dead, rather than other entities (Blavatsky was notably strange for her time for claiming that unlike other mediums the intelligences she consulted with were things other than ghosts).

You determine the effect of any active Alien energy detected, and you get an idea as to the sorts of ways that latent Alien energy may be channeled by the target.
  • You learn the object's intended function and how to use it for its intended purpose, though not necessarily the ability to do so.
  • If this target is destroyed or killed, you learn the name and appearance of the being responsible.
The quality and specificity of information gained depends on your Outcome.
