Actions

Attack with your weapon or hands.
Evade by rolling to Defend or Dodge. Your Outcome is "spent" to reduce the Outcome of any incoming attacks until your next Action.
Activate a Power or use an Ability as normal.
Hold your Action by declaring an Action and a triggering event. If the event occurs before your turn on the next Round, you perform the Action.

Reactions

Dodge by rolling Dexterity + Athletics ( dice) Difficulty 6. Your Outcome is subtracted from the attacker's.
Defend with your weapon by rolling its attack roll. Your Outcome is subtracted from the attacker's. Availability depends on weapon match-up (tap/hover).
Clash with the attacker using the same roll you would use to Defend. The higher Outcome (not contested) is treated as the result of a successful, undefended attack roll against the loser.

Desperate Defense

If you have already used your Action, you may Exert your Mind to perform a Reaction. Your next Round's Action receives a -2 dice penalty. You cannot Clash as a Desperate Defense.

Will to Survive

Once per Contract, you may reduce the severity of an incoming Injury up to 4 Severity levels (to a minimum of Severity 4). You take a point of Mind damage and suffer a Major Battle Scar that lingers after the Injury is healed, even with proper Stabilization.

If an attack's Outcome is positive after defense, it results in a new Injury with Severity = Outcome + Weapon damage - Armor

Proper Stabilization

Requires an advanced first aid kit for Severity 4 Injuries, a field surgery kit for Severity 5 Injuries, and a surgery theater for Severity 6+ Injuries.

Roll Intellect + Medicine, Difficulty equal to Severity

An Outcome of 1 or greater will Stabilize the Injury and stop its degradation.
Complete success (Outcome 4+) puts the Injury on track to heal clean: its Battle Scar heals with it.
Failed attempts can be retried at +1 Difficulty per failure.
On a Botch, the Injury's Severity increases by 1.

Makeshift Stabilization

Attempt a major treatment using insufficient or improvised medical equipment.

Roll Intellect + Medicine, Difficulty > Severity

Any positive Outcome (1+) will Stabilize the Injury and stop its degradation.
However, any Outcome less than 4 increases the Injury’s Severity by 1. Botches also worsen its Battle Scar.
Regardless of Outcome, any Battle Scars caused by the Injury will persist after it is fully healed.
Failed attempts can be retried at +1 Difficulty per failure.

Self-stabilization attempts are rolled at +1 Difficulty.

Biography

I was born and raised in McAllen, Texas a small border-town in deep south Texas, my parents thought it would be a good place to live so I could grow up and become a doctor or a lawyer, you could never get enough of those two things in McAllen. I always did good in school; I was on the path to becoming a Radiologist, then I joined magic lessons in my junior year, then it wasn't about grades anymore. I wasn't the best at magic, but I was impressively indomitable; I would learn and read for hours, instead of homework,magic consumed my life. By the time my graduation came, I went from a 4.0 GPA to a 2.9, my parents were not happy with me and suddenly I was living in my friend's house and working at a Stripes. 4 years later, things haven't changed for the better, a big Oil Company named PetroCo bought the land my friend's house is on from the bank, me, him, and his family are all going to go homeless because some asshole bought the land, some asshole I work for, I realize now that I'm a cog in a mechanical vampire. My first plan of action against PetroCo was suing them, I studied for hours after work in a library learning law, I represented my friend and his family to get their land back, I should've won, I had solid evidence that the bank had no right to sell their land. Guess what? They won the case anyway, the judge was replaced suddenly after showing favor towards our direction. I was so mad, I WAS SO MAD, I went back to my grimoire and I started training once, but instead of fireballs and flying, I wanted to give them a mouthful of bark, give them a taste of their own medicine, I wanted them to feel the power of the earth, I WANTED THEM TO FEEL ON MY LUMBER!!!! MY LUMBANCY. I vow now, to take over PetroCo and every one of these big Oil Tycoons and give everything that's ever been stolen by these oil companies back to their rightful owners.
