Born in 843 AD, Grognar was a Viking warrior. At 56, he was thrust into the world of the Contracts, where he adapted and grew, learning new skills. After passing a trial, Odin tasked him with a mission to redeem himself.
Now, Grognar fights with purpose, seeking redemption and a return to his Time. His Viking spirit remains strong as he proves his worth.
"I was born to fight. But not all who die by my hand deserved it. The gods watched, and I was silent." — Grognar
Grognar has taken innocent lives before, and he regrets it more than anything. Though he still kills, he draws a hard line: no harm shall come to those who have not wronged him or others. Collateral damage is a source of deep shame. This rule is sacred. To break this is to relive his worst sins.
Violence is a tool, not a solution. Grognar will not kill if threats, intimidation, or a firm hand could serve. Slaughter without necessity is savagery, not strength. He respects restraint more than carnage.
A warrior lives and dies by loyalty. Any Contract allies, regardless of origin or species, become temporary shield-brothers or sisters. Betrayal is the lowest form of dishonor.
Grognar still honors Odin, Thor, and the Valkyries, but he recognizes power in this new world. He will not bow to Harbingers or beings like Magdalene, but he will not spit in their faces either. Respect the forces beyond, but keep your soul your own.
Grognar sees his younger self and the innocent lives he’s ruined when he looks at the weak or the young. He will not be that monster again.
Retreat is acceptable. Cowardice is not. He will not abandon comrades to save his own skin unless the gods themselves tear open the sky. He would rather die than be remembered as a coward.
Grognar keeps a mental tally of those he has killed, especially those who didn’t deserve it. He offers something to the gods for each innocent soul he’s taken, hoping one day to balance the scales. To forget the dead is to become like the worst of the Harbingers.
